Boston para-educator speaks out on coronavirus

Margaret – Boston, MA

Hey, I’m Margaret, and I’m a member of Socialist Alternative here in Boston. I work as a paraprofessional in the Somerville public schools in a pre-kindergarten classroom. All schools in the state are closed for the foreseeable future, and this makes me really concerned about my coworkers and my students.

How are my four and five year olds making sense of this crisis?

How are their families making rent and keeping food on the table?

Meanwhile, we see the Republicans and the Democrats doing everything in their power to save the stock market and corporate profits, but what about working people? We need policies that support workers on the front lines of this crisis, in particular healthcare workers and grocery workers, as well as the 18% of people who have been laid off or had their hours cut because of this crisis.

We need policies that support the thousands and thousands of young people who no longer have school as a safe place to get meals and access to other services. My students’ health and safety depends on it!

Join me and other socialists for “Coronavirus Wreaks Havoc: Socialist Response & Labor Action Needed,” a virtual town hall with Seattle city councilmember Kshama Sawant and others. You can RSVP here.
